30 Sep–3 Oct is our flexible Dolomites weather window. We aim to complete the three main mountain plans by 2 Oct where practical. 30 Sep is primarily Venice plus transfer / arrival, with only light nearby sightseeing if arrival is early and weather excellent. One plan may move to 3 Oct if weather requires; the three full plans are not guaranteed to fit. The 22:30 rental-car return at Milan Linate remains the hard deadline.
For 3 Oct, prioritize early-finishing western / Canazei-side activities: Seceda, Alpe di Siusi, Passo Pordoi or nearby scenic routes. Do not schedule Tre Cime full loop on 3 Oct. Check the drive from the chosen finish point and work backwards from 22:30, allowing for traffic, rest stops and the return process. Reduce or skip Milan sightseeing that day; 4 Oct is the main Milan sightseeing day.

- Canazei → Ortisei. Aim to arrive around 08:00–08:15.
- 08:30 planned cable car: Ortisei → Furnes → Seceda.
- Approx. 09:00–11:30: famous ridgeline viewpoint, easy panoramic walk, photos and an optional mountain hut snack or coffee.
- Approx. 12:00 cable car down. Lunch in the Seceda / Ortisei area.
- Approx. 13:00 walk to the Ortisei–Alpe di Siusi gondola. Up around 13:15–13:30.
- 13:45–16:30: Alpe di Siusi easy walking, meadows, huts and Sassolungo views.
- Approx. 17:00 gondola down, then return to Canazei.

Costs & tickets
Seceda return €74 pp + Alpe di Siusi return €41 pp = approx. €460 for 4 adults. Gardena Card: €124 pp / €496 for 4. Do not buy yet: individual tickets in this plan are €36 cheaper overall.
Advance booking is not essential in the current plan; buy on the day to preserve weather flexibility. Times are planning targets; check seasonal lift operations and last descents before setting out.

Rifugio Auronzo → Rifugio Lavaredo → Forcella Lavaredo → Locatelli / Dreizinnenhütte area → loop back to Auronzo.
Bring water, sandwiches / snacks, hiking shoes, a warm layer and a waterproof / windproof jacket.
Tre Cime vehicle access: €40 per car. ONLINE RESERVATION REQUIRED. The rental number plate can be added later according to the booking rules. This is the most important advance booking item in the current plan.

Food: Quinz Locanda al Lago — priority late lunch / early dinner · Malga Misurina · Pizzeria Edelweiss · Rifugio Auronzo for convenient hiking-day food / refreshments.
Optional Lago di Dobbiaco / Toblacher See, only if time and energy allow. Skip if the Tre Cime hike runs long — no need to turn today into a checklist.

Morning: Canazei → Lago di Braies / Pragser Wildsee. Spend approx. 1–1.5 hours around the lake: a scenic stop, not another major hike.
The scenic loop
Canazei → Lago di Braies → Cortina area → Passo Falzarego → Passo Giau → Arabba → Passo Pordoi → Canazei.
- Core: Lago di Braies, Passo Giau, Passo Pordoi and scenic mountain passes.
- Passo Falzarego: possible stop.
- Passo Giau: major stop.
- Arabba: coffee / food.
- Passo Pordoi: final major pass before Canazei.
Optional · Buy on the day Sass Pordoi cable car: only if visibility is excellent. Skip if clouded in.
Costs: mountain pass roads and Lago di Braies free; lake parking, fuel and optional cable car extra. Nothing essential to book at this stage.
This is the most flexible plan, not an all-weather route. Adjust for road conditions and visibility. For a 3 Oct backup, choose Passo Pordoi or nearby Canazei-side scenic routes instead of the full eastern lake-and-passes loop, finishing early enough for the drive to Linate.

Practical notes
- ZTL & parking: check permitted access before entering historic centres. Plan a legal car park; don’t follow navigation blindly into a restricted zone. Padova hotel parking is €6/day.
- Toll roads: allow for tolls; choose a lane suitable for your payment method and rental setup.
- Mountain driving: passes, traffic and stops can extend estimates. On 3 Oct work backwards from the 22:30 LIN return, with a generous buffer.
- Weather & lifts: decide the order 2–3 days ahead, then recheck conditions and last lift times on the day. Carry warm layers and waterproof / windproof clothing.
- Tre Cime: online vehicle access reservation required in the current plan; check the operator’s number-plate and access rules. Never assign the full loop to 3 Oct.
- Airport buffer: return the car at Linate on 3 Oct; fly from Malpensa on 4 Oct. Leave generous time for the transfer, baggage and security.
